Install

Four steps to your own NAS

1

Download the image

Grab the x86_64 installer ISO. This is a beta — keep a separate backup of anything you care about.

2

Write it to USB

Write the ISO to a USB drive using an image-writing tool.

3

Boot the target machine

Boot from the USB drive to launch the installer. Both UEFI and BIOS boot are supported.

4

Run the guided setup

Pick a disk, set the hostname, network and admin account. Then open the NAS in your browser.

Requirements

Choose your hardware

Use a compatible x86_64 desktop, mini PC or server. Check that Alpine Linux supports its storage and network hardware. Hardware virtualization (VT-x / AMD-V) is needed for accelerated VMs.

CPU
64-bit x86_64 (KVM for VMs)
Memory
2 GB RAM minimum, 4 GB+ recommended
Disks
A system disk + any data disks you want to pool
Boot media
An 8 GB+ USB stick for the installer
